Moonlight & Mawazo is a literary platform dedicated to Science Fiction and Fantasy that centers Black, POC, Women, LGBTQ+, and Disabled creators.
Our name reflects our mission: "Moonlight" represents the beauty found in contrast, while "Mawazo" is the Swahili word for ideas and imagination.

We are currently seeking dedicated collaborators to help us curate high-quality storytelling and expand our reach within the speculative fiction community.
Available Roles
Artist
We are looking for visual storytellers to bring our winning submissions to life.
Responsibilities: Create original illustrations or cover art that aligns with the themes of our featured short stories.
Requirements: A portfolio demonstrating a strong grasp of speculative themes and the ability to represent diverse characters with nuance.
Brand Ambassador
Help us grow the Moonlight & Mawazo community.
Responsibilities: Increase brand awareness through social media engagement, outreach to writing communities, and representing the magazine at literary events.
Requirements: A passion for inclusive Sci-Fi and Fantasy and an active presence within the writing or reading community.
Reader
Readers serve as the first point of contact for our submission periods.
Responsibilities: Review unsolicited manuscripts for plot, theme, and voice. Provide concise internal feedback to help the editorial team select finalists.
Requirements: A deep understanding of speculative fiction tropes and a commitment to our mission of diversity and inclusion.
Literary Reviewer
Contribute critical insight to our literary magazine.
Responsibilities: Write thoughtful reviews and critiques of short stories or speculative works.
Requirements: Excellent writing skills and the ability to provide objective, analytical feedback that respects the author’s intent and identity.
